1.2 Research objective 
The  research  objective  for  this  study  is  to  gain  insight  in  what  influence  the  increasing 
popularity of ICT-enabled time and place independence of work has on the (academic) organizational 
culture  and  structure,  and  how  this  affects  the  (academic)  office  workplace.  The  outcome  of  this 
study can be used as input for Facilities and Services of Wageningen UR concerning their academic 
workplace policy.  
 
1.3 Research questions 
The main research question for this research is:  
“How does ICT-enabled time and place independence of work affect the academic 
organizational structure and culture and thereby the academic office workplace?”  
 
The main research question is divided into the following sub research questions: 
Literature study:

What developments lead  to an increasing use of time and place independent working styles?

How does time and place independence of work influence organizational structure? 
3.
 
How does time and place independence of work influence organizational culture? 
 
Empirical study (interviews):

What  are  the  differences  between  the  business  and  academic  environment  regarding 
changes in organizational structure/culture due to time and place independence of work?

How  does  time  and  place  independence  of  work  and  thereby  changing  organizational 
structure/culture affect the academic office workplace?
