PROFESSOR: Because the world has evolved and, in particular, Western civilization has evolved, and the major clashes of the twentieth century were all within Western civilization. Civilizations evolve over time, and most scholars of civilization argue that they go through periods of warring states, and eventually evolve into a universal state. The West has not reached its universal state as yet, although its close to it, but it certainly has evolved out of its warring state phase, which it was in for a couple of centuries.

   Russian: JOURNALIST: Мы говорим прежде всего о западной цивилизации, которой сегодня принадлежит ведущее место в мире. Какие страны, по Вашему мнению, принадлежат к западной цивилизации, и кто является ее лидером?
   

2) Uzbek: JOURNALIST: Biz bugungi kunda dunyoda etakchi o'rinni egallab turgan G'arb madaniyati haqida gapiryapmiz. Sizningcha, qaysi davlatlar G'arb madaniyatiga tegishli va uning boshqaruvchilari kim?
PROFESSOR: Well, the leaders are the United States and Western Europe. And the big question for the West is, what other countries should be incorporated into Western institutions? And the answer from a civilization point of view is very clear. These are the countries which historically have been part of Western Christendom going back a thousand years or more.
