Zukhra Madamidzhanova (Tajikistan), Ph.D., is the head of the Department of Po-
litical Studies at the Institute of Strategic Studies Under the President of the Republic 
of Tajikistan. Her published monograph and more than fifty articles focus on themes 
of culture, tradition, ceremony, and ritual among the peoples of Tajikistan.
Kamil Malikov (Kyrgyz Republic) earned a Ph.D. in political and Islamic studies 
from the Department of Arabic, Islamic and Central Asian Studies of the Madrid 
Autonomous University in Spain. He also holds a a Certificate on Conflict Studies 
from the Center for International Security and Cooperation, Complutense University 
of Madrid, Spain. At present, Malikov is the director of the Analytical Research 
Center for Religion, Law, and Politics at the OSCE Academy, where he reads 
lectures on political Islam.
Kholnazar Mukhabbatov (Tajikistan) is a professor of geography at Tajik State 
University and head of the Department of Regional Economics at the Institute of 
Ecological Studies in Dushanbe. Dr. Mukhabbatov holds a doctorate in geography 
and is the author of 250 scholarly articles and 15 books. He has participated in 
many international research projects, including that on the Aral Sea.
Ildar Mukhtarov (Uzbekistan), Ph.D., is a leading art critic in Uzbekistan. He is 
the chairman of the Department of Cultural Studies at the Institute of Scholarly 
Research on the Fine Arts at the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan. He is also a 
professor of the history of theater at the State Institute of Art in Tashkent. He has 
authored more than ninety papers and books.
Aloviddin Nazarov (Tajikistan) is a research fellow at the Donish Institute of 
History, Archeology, and Ethnography of the Academy Sciences in Dushanbe. In 
addition to his Ph.D. dissertation, “The History of the Religious Life of Muslims 
in Tajikistan During the Soviet Period (1941–1991),” he has published more than 
thirty articles. During the 2006 spring semester, Nazarov taught at the Department 
of Philosophy and Religious Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Ravshan Nazarov (Uzbekistan), Ph.D., is the head of the Department of the His-
tory of Independence and International Relations at the Institute of History of the 
Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences. He is a member of the Council of Coordination
