Murat Bakhadyrov (Uzbekistan) holds a Ph.D. in political sciences and heads 
the Department of International Relations at the University of World Economy and 
Diplomacy in Tashkent His current research focuses on environmental issues and 
their relation to the geopolitics of Central Asia.
Christine Bichsel (Switzerland), Ph.D., is a senior researcher at the Department 
of Geosciences at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland. She is the author of 
Conflict Transformation in Central Asia: Irrigation Disputes in the Ferghana 
Valley 
(2009). Her main research interests include political geography, historical 
geography, developmental studies, and issues of peace and conflict.
Victor Dubovitskii (Tajikistan) is vice director of the Institute of History, Arche-
ology and Ethnography of the Tajikistan Academy of Sciences. In addition to his 
Ph.D. dissertation, “A History of the System of Geopolitical Relations Between 
Russia and Middle Asia, 1700–2002,” he is the author of two monographs and 
more than seventy articles published in Tajikistan and abroad.
Valentina Goriyacheva (Kyrgyz Republic), a graduate of Tashkent State Univer-
sity, is a Member of the Philosophy of Science Department at the Kyrgyz-Russian 
Slavic University. She is the author of 11 monographs and more than 100 scholarly 
articles on the history of Kyrgyzstan, cultural anthropology, and religious studies 
on Central Asia.
Tashmanbet Kenensariev (Kyrgyz Republic) is the rector of Jalalabad State Uni-
versity in Kyrgyzstan. A graduate of the Kyrgyz National University and Moscow 
State University, he holds a Ph.D. in history. He is the author of 300 scholarly 
articles in Kyrgyz, Russian, Uzbek, Turkish, English, Farsi, Chinese, German, and 
Polish, as well as 17 monographs, and 3 textbooks.
Namoz Khotamov (Tajikistan) is the head of the Department of Philosophy and 
Enterprise at the Institute of Enterprise and Service in Dushanbe. He is the author 
of 12 books and more than 200 articles, as well as a contributor to the six-volume 
Istoriia Tadzhikskogo naroda
(A History of the Tajik Nation) published by the

Tajikistan Academy of Sciences. He is currently researching the history of banks, 
banking, and enterprises in Middle Asia.
Arslan Koichiev (Kyrgyz Republic) holds a Ph.D. in history and specializes in the 
history of Soviet Central Asia. He is the author of books and articles on border issues 
in the Ferghana Valley, crises in water and energy, and inter-ethnic relations. Currently 
he is a correspondent for the Central Asia and Caucasus BBC Service in London.
