1.2.4POST-METHOD ERA
Today there is a significant role of post method era in the sphere of English language teaching and learning. After finishing this section I understood that teaching and learning English language is based on postmethod pedagogy, which has three main parameters: particularity, practicality and possibility. In particularity every teacher has his her own way of teaching. Set of goals approaches way of teaching and even materials should be particular with own way. The parameter of practicalitymeans that any recommended materials prepared by teachers must be used practically in the classroom otherwise anything done in the classroom will be useless. In the parameter of possibility everything the teacher uses must be possible in the classrooms from a social, cultural and political perspectives. In 2003 Kumaravadivelu developed ten macrostrategies which follow three principles of the postmethod pedagogy: every language teacher should think and follow these macrostrategies before planning teaching and learning process. They are 1. maximize learning opportunities; 1.minimize perceptualmismatches; 3. facilitate negotiated interaction; 4. promote learner autonomy; 5. Fosterlanguage awareness; 6. activate intuitive heuristics; 7. contextualize linguistic input; 8. Integratelanguage skills;9. ensure social relevance; and 10. raise cultural consciousness. And I understood that these macrostrategies have their own meanings. Maximize learningopportunities means Language teachers should create (and identify) many different opportunities for learning during a class period. Minimize perceptual mismatches means Language teachers should anticipate possible mismatches between their intentions and
learners’ interpretation. Facilitate negotiated interaction means Language teachers should guide learners to interact with one another, so that they can share his/her own individual perspectives, in a way that is relevant to each learner.Promote learner autonomy means Language teachers should teach their learnersself-study and self-control strategies, to help them feel more empowered learners. Foster language awareness means Teachers should draw learners’ attention to theform and functions of the target language.
Activate intuitive heuristics means Language teachers should provide as much input (written and spoken) as possible for learners to activate and develop their intuition/feeling” for language meaning and usage.
Contextualize linguistic input means Language teachers should demonstrate to theirlearners that language usage depends on context (situational, extralinguistic); so teachers should teach the language in context.
Integrate language skills means Language teachers should teach all four skills;not separate, but integrate them.
Ensure social relevance means Language teachers should chose the way for teaching which is relevant for the social, economical educational and political environment of the place where teaching is happening.
Raise cultural consciousness means Language teachers should be aware of learners’different cultures by letting them share this knowledge, and thus, empowering them
In my home task one I planned my lesson without paying attention to these concepts, parameters and principles. But I knew that I Ensure social relevance without paying attention to my learners’ social educational environment. And used Integrate language skills covering all skills in my teaching process. Contextualize linguistic input was also considered by me teaching them in context. Maximize learning opportunities are also covered creating different opportunities for learning during class period. For further process I planned to add more macro-strategies like Facilitate negotiated interaction which might provide a guide for learners to interact with one another, so that they can share their own individual perspectives, in a way that is relevant to each learner.
