1.1.5 STRATEGIC COMPETENCE
In teaching and learning language strategic competence is one of the most important one. I think strategic competence is being able to overcome difficult situations that a speaker comes across in real life situations while talking. While communicating it is important for learners to be aware that communication breakdowns are common among competent users of English.
I always endeavor to teach language to help learners to prevent breakdowns. For example, the ability to paraphrase what the speaker has said and to ask checking questions is very common among competent speakers.
For intermediate classes we should feel free to have them come up with their own sentences that coincide with their assigned emotion.
In order to teach my learners to have strategic competence, I try to choose different activities for my learners which could make them in the real situation.
