The tragedy of Bukhara
In February 1220, Genghis Khan approached Bukhara. But the Bukharans were not ready to repel the blow, and they had no other choice but to surrender to the enemy. Qazi of Bukhara Badriddin of Kasihan with their envoys went to the Genghis Khan with a request for clemency.
On February 16, 1220, the Mongols occupied Bukhara. Bukhara, considered the center of Transoxiana since ancient times, was defeated. Architectural monuments, books, ancient manuscripts, and other valuables were mercilessly destroyed. Scientists and educators were in the service of the Mongol soldiers, many of them were destroyed, their dignity trampled. By order of Genghis Khan, Bukhara was burnt.
