Reading of Scripture
Hymn – “Why Seek the Living with the Dead?” ST. ANNE
Why seek the living with the dead? Your Lord, he is not here!
For he is risen as he said; you have no need to fear.
The heavy stone is rolled away; come, see where he was laid.
The grip of death is weak today; the price of sin is paid.
Go tell the others what you know that they might come and see
The tomb is empty! Quickly go! Our Christ is ris’n indeed!

Unison Reading of Scripture (based from I Peter 1:3-9)
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By His great mercy He has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. In this we rejoice, even if now for a little while we must suffer various trials, so that the genuiness of our faith may be found to result in praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Although we have not seen Him, we love Him; and even though we do not see Him now, we believe in Him and rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy, for we are receiving the outcome of our faith, the salvation of our souls.

Chorus – “Because He Lives”
Because he lives I can face tomorrow.
Because he lives all fear is gone.
Because I know, I know he holds the future
My life is worth the living just because he lives.

Benediction from I Corinthians 15 (The Message)
Minister: The truth is that Christ has been raised up, the first in a long legacy of those who are going to leave the cemeteries. Death initially came by a man,
People: and resurrection from death came by a Man.
Minister: Everybody dies in Adam,
People: but everybody comes alive in Christ!
Minister: But we must wait our turn. Christ is first, then those who are with Him at His coming when He hands over His kingdom to God the Father.
People: When everything and everyone is finally under God’s rule, the Son will step down, taking His place with everyone else, showing that God’s rule is absolutely comprehensive. It will be the perfect ending!
Minister: Christ is risen!
People: He is risen indeed!
Chorus – “He Is Lord”
He is Lord! He is Lord! He is risen from the grave, and he is Lord!
Every knee shall bow, every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord!

Open our eyes, Lord, we want to see Jesus,
To reach out and touch him and say that we love him.
Open our ears, Lord, and help us to listen.
Open our eyes, Lord, we want to see Jesus.

Gospel Lesson - John 20:1-18
Leader: Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them,
Women: "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him."
Leader: Then Peter and the other disciple set out and went toward the tomb. The two were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He bent down to look in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he did not go in. Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen wrappings lying there, and the cloth that had been on Jesus' head, not lying with the linen wrappings but rolled up in a place by itself. Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; for as yet they did not understand the scripture, that he must rise from the dead. Then the disciples returned to their homes.
But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb; and she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had been lying, one at the head and the other at the feet. They said to her,
Men: "Woman, why are you weeping?"
Women: "They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him."
Leader: When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her,
Men: "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?"
Leader: Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him,
Women: "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away."
Leader: Jesus said to her,
Men: "Mary!"
Leader: She turned and said to him,
Women: "Teacher, it is you!"
Leader: Jesus said to her,
Men: "Do not hold on to me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and tell them that I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God."
Leader: Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples,
Women: "I have seen the Lord!"
Singing -
Up from the grave He arose
With a mighty triumph o’er his foes.
He arose the Victor from the dark domain,
And He lives forever with His saints to reign.
He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose!
Changing of the Drape on the Cross
Because He lives I can face tomorrow;
Because He lives all fear is gone.
Because I know, I know He holds the future,
My life is worth the living just because He lives!

Statement of Faith from I Corinthians 15 (unison)
This is the good news that has been proclaimed to us,
which we have received,
in which we stand,
through which we are being saved.
This is what we believe:
Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures.
He was buried and was raised on the third day.
He appeared to Peter, then to the twelve.
He appeared to more than five hundred brothers and sisters
at one time.
He appeared to James, then to all the apostles.
Most recently, he has made himself known to me.
By the grace of God I am what I am.
His grace toward me has not been in vain.
In everything that I have accomplished, it was not I,
but the grace of God that is with me.
We proclaim this so others may come to believe.
Devotional Thought
Minister: Christ is risen!
People: He is risen indeed!
Singing as We Go -
He lives! He lives! Christ Jesus lives today.
He walks with me and talks with me along the narrow way.
He lives! He lives salvation to impart.
You ask me how I know He lives? He lives within my heart.
