Эта идиома означает «Молодец!» При этом она может 
употребляться и как похвала, и как осуждение. В послед-
нем случае она выражает сарказм. Что именно имеется в 
виду, зависит от интонации, с которой произносится фраза, 
и, разумеется, от ситуации. Например: “Nice going, John! You 
did a good job.” (The Free Dictionary online) — «Молодец, 
Джон! Ты хорошо поработал», — хвалит сотрудника 
начальница. Сравните эту же фразу в иной ситуации: “You 
crashed her car? Oh, nice going!” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary 
online) — «Ты разбил ее машину? О, замечательно!» Вот 
еще один, более пространный пример иронического упо-
требления: “I reached for my bag, when I realized that I'd left 
my pass on the kitchen table. "Nice going," I thought. "What 
are the chances of the guards letting me in without a pass? 
Precisely — slim to none.” — «Я потянулась к сумке, и только 
тут осознала, что оставила свой пропуск на столе в кух-
не. «Великолепно! — подумала я. — Каковы шансы, что 
охранники пропустят меня без пропуска? Вот именно — 
от почти никаких до нуля». Здесь Nice going! фактически 
означает What a stupid thing to do! Женщина ругает себя 
за глупость.
