Course contents
|
This course is designed to explore the relationship of policy strategies, implementation and equity for individuals through the framework of critical disability studies theory. Discussion will be grounded in examples of existing policy from a variety of locations. Several themes will be emphasized throughout the course: the socio-political construction of disability; the tensions and balance amongst national and local programs; traditional program structures and the positive/negative impact on family and community. Students will be encouraged to draw on personal experience as community members and national citizens to critically discuss the impact of national and local strategies for persons with disabilities.
