Procedure of the lesson: Organizing moment: Motivation,Greeting, checking attendance, season, weather, checking the preparation for the lesson. Greeting, reporting of pupils on duty. Good morning, pupils. I’m glad to see you. Let’s begin our lesson. Sit down please. II. Asking homework: Check for homework given on past lesson. T:-What was your homework for today? P: - Our homework was to revise irregular verbs. III. Pre-activity: Activity 1 Listen and repeat. 5 min Objectives: to introduce the unit topic;to warm up STEP 1: Ask the pupils to listen to the song and say what this song is about. Play the DVD. STEP 2: Play the DVD again and ask them to repeat the song. T: - Dear pupils look at the screen. You should listen and repeat a song. After this you should guess the topic of our today’s lesson. Is it clear?
After pupils sang a song to ask them to guess the theme of the lesson. T: - OK. That’s right. You can write it down in your exercise books.
STEP 1: Ask the pupils to repeat the ordinal numbers after you in chorus. Do not forget to use ‘the’ before ordinal numbers. STEP 2: Ask the pupils to look at the table and choose the day of their birthday. T: - Today we’ll use the ordinal numbers during our lesson. So let’s revise them. -We usually use the ordinal numbers with definite article the and add –th to the cardinal numbers to form ordinal numbers, but there are a lot of exceptions which you will have to learn.
T: - I think you have remembered the ordinal numbers. Now look at the screen and listen to the dialogue. Pupils watch video of Chain drill activity and use it as example.
This is a usual Chain Drill activity. The pupils ask and answer as shown in the example. T: - We have Chain Drill activity now. Before starting pay your attention to using prepositions. We use preposition on with dates and preposition in with seasons, months and years. Pupils ask each other about their birthday dates.
e.g. Madina is the first. Her birthday’s on the 3rd of January. Then teams change . To check if they put each other correctly or not.
STEP 1: Write on the board three years, e.g. 1982, 2003, 2012. Ask the pupils to look at the Remember box and say the years. Help them. Help the pupils see that when you say a year, you split the number in half, e.g. 1982 = nineteen (19) eighty-two (82) T: - Pupils, look at the blackboard 1982- the years before 2000 are said in groups of two numbers e.g. nineteen (19) eighty-two (82) 2003 – from 2000 to 2010 we use usual numbers e.g. two thousand and three. But from 2010 on we can hear both possibilities e.g. 2012- twenty twelve or two thousand and twelve. Activity 3b Listen and repeat. 3 min Objective: to pronounce the years correctly Play the DVD. The pupils listen and repeat the years after the DVD. VI. Conclusion T: - Now I ask you to complete the sentence “ Now I know how to… .” Pupils’ possible answers:
Now I know how to say years. Now I know how to pronounce the ordinal numbers. Now I know how to form the ordinal numbers. Now I know how to use preposition on. Now I know how to ask and answer about birthday date. VII. Homework. 1 min Ask the pupils to look at the homework on Page 95. Check that everybody understands what to do with the task.
