Real estate investment trust (REIT)
Public corporation that sells stock to raise money
(capital) that is then used to purchase real estate, including hotels.
Reasonable care
Legal concept that identifies the amount of care a reasonably prudent
person would exercise in a specific situation.
Reasonable cause
Knowledge of facts that, although not the same as direct knowledge, would
cause a reasonable person knowing the same facts to reasonably conclude the same thing.
Recession
Period of downturn in a nation’s economy.
Recodable locking system
Hotel locking system designed so that when a guest inserts a
key card into a lock for the first time, the lock is immediately recoded and entry authori-
zation for the previous guest is canceled.
Recruitment
Activities designed to attract qualified applicants for vacant positions within
the hotel.
Registration card
Physical document a guest signs during check-in. Information contained
on the registration card varies based on the specific PMS but always includes the guest’s
name, room assignment, room rate, and departure date. Often called the reg card.
Repeat business
Revenues generated from guests returning to the hotel as a result of positive
experiences on previous visits.
