GENERAL SUMMARY
THE LIST OF USED LITERATURE
INTRODUCTION
Researches on toponymy of England have been investigated by scholars such as K.I. Sandred, W.F.H. Nicoiaisen, A.E. Smailes, E. Ekwall, L.P. Adamov, V.D. Belenkaya, I.A. Danchinova, T.Nafasov, Melnikova and others. They contributed much for the development of toponymic science. In the works of scholars of the Place Names Society (A. Mawer, J.E.B. Gover, A.M. Armstrong, K. Cameron, P.H. Reaney, J.J. Alexander, M. Geling and others), written mainly in the form of etymological dictionaries, toponyms were presented as undifferentiated constituents as ancient forms and the date of formation or mentioning them in historical, documents or maps. Historical researches of L.P. Adamova and A.I. Danchinova on English toponymy were held on the method of synchronic analysis (within a certain period of history of the language). Study of English toponymy by V.D. Belenkoi also had been done on synchronic analysis method, but with the elements of retrospective analysis, i.e. the modern state of toponyms was investigated with references to the history of the language. The analyses of scientific works in the field of historical toponymy give us the right to say that the studies conducted in diachronic ways were held insufficiently. Out of the works on diachronic nature Melnikova’s and T.Nafasov`s work should be noted, which covers all kinds of toponyms, including the best-known ones, but without comparing them by regions of England. The study of toponymic nomination formation, done by diachronic analysis method, i.e. throughout the English language history, and comparisons of diachronic processes of creating names of settlements of counties of England predetermined the actuality of the work.
Despite the fact that the historical toponymy is relatively young field of science, within the framework of this science many important issues were solved. But, as far as we know, a number of problems had not been sufficiently investigated in the works of toponymists. These problems include the development of methodology for private research in the field of historical toponymy, directly toponymic nomination of several regions, whose ethnic group was subjected to continuous linguo-cultural influence of foreign conquerors; the study of formation and expansion of toponymic fragment of nominative picture of the world in historical perspective. The investigation of the listed problems and results, obtained in the course of their analyses, also determined the actuality of the masters work.
Current research shows that investigation of toponyms one of the compulsive concern which focus on geographical namesare defined as ‘names applied to a feature on Earth’. Toponyms are the fruit of different centuries and live for long periods.Classic author H. C. Darby expressed his views on toponyms as follows: “To all who travel about the countryside with a glimmer of curiosity, and to all who read,or even glance at, maps, place-names must always be of great, and often of tantalizing, interest.He treated the history of landscape, for it was places that were being named, and thecharacteristics of those places are often reflected in their names.
Etymological peculiarities of Uzbek and English toponyms is research topic. An initial working title provides the etymology of the term ''toponymy''; distinctive features, variability and resemblance of Uzbek and English place names;the correlation between Uzbek and English scientists on toponyms. Further more classification of toponyms, toponymic system, names of places, quantative toponyms and qualitative toponyms.
There are lots of scholars investigated toponyms around the world. One of the uzbek scholar Tura Nafasov worked on ''Dictionary of Uzbek toponyms''. He tried to clarify lots of toponyms, their origin, history and form. He wrote the first linguistic monograph on Uzbek toponymy in Uzbekistan. The research of the well-known geographer S. Karaev also plays a special role in the historical and scientific analysis of toponyms in the territory of Uzbekistan. In this work, the historical and modern toponyms of the territory of Uzbekistan are analyzed in depth in a comparative-historical direction. The scientist's doctoral dissertation was devoted to the analysis of Uzbek oysters. In general, the most studied place names among onomastic units in Uzbekistan are toponyms, and such research should be expanded and deepened in the future. On this basis, a solid foundation is being laid for the creation of a map of toponyms of Uzbekistan, a perfect multi-volume annotated dictionary.
As for English toponyms ''The Book of English Place Names: How Our Towns and Villages Got Their Names'' Kindle Edition by Caroline Taggart, ''A History of English Place Names and Where They Came From'' by John Moss that described the origins of the names of many English towns, hamlets, and villages date as far back as Saxon times. In recent years four of Poulton-Smith’s books [Coates, 2012;
2013], all dealing with counties that onomastic literature. A typical entry for a single name with a complicated history is given below: the entry for the city of Bristol from the third volume of The Place-Names of Gloucestershire by A. H. Smith, which constitutes volume 40 of the Survey (published in 1964) [PN Gloucs, 3, 83–84]Another linguists Aleksandra V. Urazmetova – Julia Kh. Shamsutdinova investigated ''Principles of place names classifications'' which is based on 15000 British and 17000 American toponyms, received from toponymic dictionaries, reference books and electronic toponymic search systems. Besides that, Jan Tent who is professor of Macquarie University, NSW Australia worked on ''Approaches to Research in Toponymy''. The research considers the differences between the two approaches and proposes guidelines for their use which one concentrating on the etymology, meaning, and origin of toponyms, and one focusing on the toponyms of a region and examining patterns of these names.
We will uncover Etymological peculiarities of Uzbek and English toponyms which have not discovered and demonstrated yet.
