Receptive skills
Receptive skills which people acknowledge the meaning of what they see or hear when we read
a story or newspaper, listen to the news or join in a conversation, our ability to understand and accept
which one we use is determined by our purpose of reading or listening.

Social relations
We often hear people say that they spend whole day or weekend chatting to someone else but
when asked what they talked about, they said “Nothing” or “I really cannot remember”. In such a talk
the information content or message is not crucial.
For entertainment
People listen to jokes, stories, song, TV etc. mainly for entertainment. The outcome of a hearing
is occasionally measured personally, not by how beneficial. It is satisfaction.
