In 2019, the unemployment rate in Uzbekistan amounted to 9.0 % of the 
economically active population. Unfortunately, the level of registered female 
unemployment is higher than that of men. In 2019, it was 12.8 %.

The labor market in Uzbekistan is characterized by lower economic activity of 
women compared to men. The main reason is that women are mainly engaged in 
household chores and child care. 
In 2019, the number of economically active population amounted to
14.876 million people (43.9 % of the total population). The number of employed 
people in the economy in 2019 reached 13.54 million people and, compared to 2018, 
increased by 0.3 million people. The largest share of the economically active 
population was recorded in the Ferghana (11.0%), Samarkand (10.8%), Andijan 
(9.5%) and Tashkent regions.
