модернизированных гостиниц входит в транснациональные гостиничные цепи и 
управляется профессиональными менеджерскими компаниями; дефицитом 
являются гостиницы уровня двух и трех звезд; большое количество гостиниц с 
устаревшим оборудованием, мебелью, неквалифицированным персоналом 
составляет фонд некатегорийных гостиниц, испытывающих большие проблемы 
по загрузке и д.р. Нужно отметить, что в России присутствуют почти все 
крупные международные сети ("Марриотт", "Форте", "Шератон" и 
"Кемпински"), однако их деятельность сосредоточена в сегменте четырех- и 
пятизвездочных отелей в Москве и Санкт-Петербурге. Можно ожидать, что 
следующим этапом деятельности международных гостиничных сетей на 
территории России станет строительство отелей более низких категорий, в 
частности трехзвездных. Остается актуальным вопрос их внедрения в регионы и 
известные туристические центры России.

CULTURAL HERITAGE OF TOURISM IN UZBEKISTAN: 
DEVELOPMENT AND PERSPECTIVES

Uzbekistan is very famous for its cultural heritage sites. According to the WTO, 
more than 2 million foreign tourists visit Uzbekistan. All those tourists are interested 
in observing old cities of Bukhara, Samarkand and Khiva.
Besides those tourists are very keen to study the culture of Uzbek people and 
their history. Therefore, studying cultural heritage in context of Uzbekistan is vital. It 
is also important to understand what developments are made in that area and what are 
the perspectives. With recent change in the government and liberalization of tourism, 
it is expected that number of tourists by 2020 will increase dramatically.
The government is planning to attract tourists from more than 55 countries 
worldwide by abolishing the visa for the citizens of those countries. This type of legal 
act by government will stimulate the tourists to visit Uzbekistan; at the same time it 
will open challenges for the government agencies and municipal authorities.
As Uzbekistan is famous for its cultural heritage and it is one of the main tourist 
attraction features of Uzbekistan, we must ensure the safety and preserve those cultural 
heritage sites. Otherwise, the dramatic increase in the flow of tourists to those sites will 
damage the sites and their heritage essence. Besides, the risk is not only from the arrival 
of tourists but also in the development of infrastructure close to those heritage sites.
The growing demand will stimulate the growing supply of tourism products, 
such as hotels, restaurants and other attractions. At the same time it could cause harm 
to the heritage site. The paper will discuss the development of the cultural tourism 
product in Uzbekistan and the diverse range of cultural activities that are now 
considered to be part of this growth phenomenon. It will be argued that cultural tourism 
can no longer be considered as a special interest or niche sector, but instead as an 
umbrella term for a range of tourism typologies and diverse activities which have a 
cultural focus.
The motivation for such travel will also be discussed, focusing on the changing 
nature of patterns of consumption and diversifying typologies of the cultural tourist as 
the phenomenon apparently shifts from ‘niche’ to ‘mass’.
