(obtained from experience)

Alpha is usually around 0.9
Mu is G/Tc which is the duty cycle for the green light
Transport demand models

The demand curve
Gives a direct relationship between price and demanded quantity.

Factors that affect the demand:
-
Demographic:
o
Number of people
o
Income
o
Age
o
Lifestyles
-
Economics:
o
Incomes
o
Number of jobs
o
Business activities

Etc…
Induced travel
Is the travel induced by the creation of new infrastructure in the transport system
“build it and they will come”.

Demand models
Used to predict how different factors affect travel behavior:
-
Conventional models
: focus on certain factors (demographics, vehicle operating
costs, speeds, etc.)
-
Travel model improvements
: Include also other factors that are needed for the
TDM
Refers to a mathematical relationship allowing to associate the average flow with a
given activity and transport supply system in a determined reference period:
Demand from O to D, having K_S characteristics.
SE = Socio-economical attributes
T = variables related to the transport system
Theta = parameters of the function f.
A = Vector of parameters measuring the settlement features (land use potentials
capacity to generate demand, etc.)
alpha = vector of parameters given weight to each settlement factor.
k = vector of parameters characterizing the object of transport
X = vector of attributes related to the transport system (time, cost, safety, distance,
comfort)
beta = vector of weights for each attribute.
Aims of transport models
1-
Estimate current demand (O-D matrix)
2-
Estimate future demand
3-
Statistical instrument analysis of the mobility
Models classification

ICT4TS – Exam summary

Global descriptive models
Used for studying the market as a whole, the market is divided in segments and, for
each a model is used, or, a different model can be used for each segment.
