2. Translation in the I-VIII centuries.

The I century was full of rapid events in the result of changes by Monarchy. That time a golden century of Roman literature opened. So the purposes and circle of translation new genres of literature, differentiation of its stylistic means were mastered.

Romans occupied Britain in the I-V centuries. Certainly, they had contact with local Celtic population. No any other concrete information about translation activity of that period was found out, but there is no doubt that the Romans had to have translators. In the contrast to many other Roman provinces, Britain did not have such romanization as it was in Spain or Gallery. Christianity came in the II century and in the V century there began German migrations, from continent to Britain. Augustine, an archbishop of Canterbury, founded the first monastery.

Monasteries played an important role in supporting and spreading the miritual culture in Britain and Ireland.

In the IV century the work of Iso “ Flavor Judaic War” was translated into Latin. It describes the uprising in Israel against the Roman Empire.

IV-V centuries AD are the beginning of the translation period from Antiquity to the Middle Ages. After the reign of Constantine the Great, Roman Empire takes Christianity.

In IV-V AD New Greek civilization had a violent growth. It was clear that Crete-Mycenaean civilization had 2 types of writing: hieroglyphic and linear. The scholars deciphered just the scripts with linear letters. Those scripts bore more everyday and household character. The literature was not highly developed.
