Metaphor sustained/extended

a chain of metaphors containing the 
central image and some contributory images. Metaphor is a transfer of the 
name of an object to another object on the basis of similarity, likeness, 
affinity of the two objects. The stylistic function of a metaphor is not a mere 
nomination of the thing in question but rather its expressive characterization. 
E. g.: 
«The machine sitting at the desk was no longer a man; it was a busy New 
York broker...» (O 'Henry).
Meter 
− rhythm in verse; measured patterned arrangement of syllables 
according to stress or length. 
Metonymy 
− transfer of name of one object onto another to which it is 
related or 
of 
which it is a part. Metonymy is applying the name of an object 
to another object in some way connected with the first.

e.g. 
to drink a glass, to eat a plate, the.Hall applauded

− myths collectively and the beliefs that they contain.
