BASKETBALL
Basketball is a fast, exciting and entertaining spot piayed between two teams, each consisting of five players . A team wins game by scoring more points than the opposing team. Players score by shooting a large ball into a basket , at one end of a basketball court. A player can advance, the ball toward the basket only by dribbling
(bouncing the ball) or by passing to a temmate. Each team also tries to prevent the other team scoring.Basketball is a popular form of recreation as well as an organized team sporl. Basketball requires teamwork , quick reactions and endurance.
A regulation basketball court measures 29 meters long and 15 meters wide. A basket and a backboard hang ver each end of the court . Each backboard must be 122 centimeters inside the end line. The basket consists of arm ,net, and backboard support . Basket is situated at a 3,03m height from the level of floor.
Basketball is played with a round brown or orange leather ball. The ball for boys and means games weights between 567 to 624 grams and is about 75 centimeters in circumference.
The standart basketball uniform consists of a shirt , shorts , white socks , and lightweight leather shoes with rubber soles . The home team usually wears light- colored uniforms and the visiting team wears a darker color.
The five players on a team play both offense and defense. When their team has the ball they are on offense , when their opponents have the ball , they are on defense.
NBA teams play four 12 –minute quarters. They take a 15- minute break between halves .
A team scores points by making field goals and free throws. The ball thrown from the nearest and middle distance is credited 2 points , from the far distance -3 points .Penalty throw is credited I point.
