Wrestling
Wrestling is a sport in which two opponents try to pin each other’s shoulders to a mat on the floor.Successful wrestling demands strength, speed, balance, physical conditioning, and knowledge of body leverage. A clever wrestler can often defeat a stronger and heavier opponent. There are many kinds of wrestling. * Each has its own rules.The two most popular forms of wrestling in the world are Greco- Roman and freestyle. Most of the rules and procedures in the two styles are the same. The main difference concerns the use of the legs. In freestyle, wrestlers may use the legs to grasp an opponent’s arms or legs, or to trip or tackle an opponent’s legs. In Greco- Roman, a wrestler cannot attack an opponent’s legs or attack with his own legs. The legs may be used only for support.Some international meets feature competition in a style called sambo, or somho, which originated in the Soviet Union in the 1930’s. Sambo is a blend of several forms of wrestling and the martial arts, especially judo.There are 10 weight classes in both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling in international competition, including the Olympics. They range from 105.5 pounds to a class of no more than 286 pounds. The participants in each class are divided by lot into two groups. Competition in each group is conducted as a separate tournament. The winners of the groups meet in the championship finals.Each match consists of one five-minute period.. The wrestlers star the match on their feet, facing each other. Three officials direct each match. At least two of them must agree on a decision.
SHOOTING
Shooting is one of the oldest kinds of sport. Shooting with the rifle, pistol and shotgun has been practiced in many countries since the middle Ages. Already in the 15th century shootings were held in Germany France, Switzerland and other countries. During the 19th Century, however, shooting also developed into a sport.At the iirst Olympic Games of the modem times in the year 1896 in Athens, nine different sports were placed on the program by the International Olympic Committee, and the shooting sport had the highest number of participants in these first Olympic Games. The first world championship was organized in 1897 in France.Today, the International Shooting Union is recognized by the International Olympic Committee — IOC — as the sole supervising body of the international amateur shooting sport for all international competitions. It is presently composed of 157 national federations from 137 affiliated countries.In 1986, final competitions for the Olympic sport shooting events were introduced according to the traditional program. In the same year, the U1T introduced an Olympic qualification system, in which athletes from all parts of the world could qualify for the Olympic Games. Apart from the world championships and continental championships, international competitions were designated for this qualification system, and the world cup was bom. The World Cup Final is the highlight of each world cup season and was conducted for the first time in 1988.Today, shooting sport may undisputedly be regarded as an important pillar of the Olympic Movement and is firmly anchored in the program of the Olympic Games.The ISSF envisages 15 exercises for men and 9 for women, which are included in the program of the international competitions. 7 exercises for men and 4 for women are included in the compulsory program of the Olympic Games.
