SOME NOTES ON “COMMON KIND OF INFORMATION” 
MENTIONED BY L. BRILLOUIN 
 
Abstract. The famous scientist L. Brillouin in one of his fundamental works put 
forward, in particular, the goal of giving “a precise, scientific definition of the word 
‘information’”. It seems a bit strange to go from the word to its “scientific definition”. 
The strategy of formation of the conceptual and terminological apparatus which 
consists in movement from accurately outlined essence to a choice of a suitable word 
for its designation looks more substantiated. But not only this is surprising: the author 
openly warns the reader that he actually borrows for his own purposes a word that has 
a certain familiar, established meaning, which extends to the so-called “common kind 
of information”. In this regard, this paper sets another task - the scientific 
consideration of this “common kind of information”. The attempt to solve this scientific 
task leads to a number of definite and sometimes unexpected results, the adoption of 
which by the scientific community will require a revision of some stereotypes of speech 
and thinking.
