4.2.2 Homework task nineteen
Supporting your colleagues – providing effective microteaching observation report
Classroom observation, feedback, and language teaching
I decided to write an observation report for Abdullayeva Nargiza’s microteaching on the topic of “Non-native English speaking teachers’ perceptions of teaching pronunciation as a non-native speaker”. Her lesson was well-organized. He used a projector, a computer and a white-board for having her lesson. She prepared handouts for activities. She herself and the students in the workshop were in a good mood. She began her lesson with a warm-up activity with a short film extract comparing two big cities to ask the commonalities and differences between them. Then he elicited the answers. She gave all the information about it. Her lesson was focused on improving students’ critical thinking and sociolinguistic and strategic competences. Following text based activity absolutely improves students' vocabulary according to linguistic and strategic approach.
After that she delivered a task where students are expected to differentiate various contextual meaning, functions and pragmatic specifications of some words according to their pronunciation. It was very effective. Students not only developed and practiced their speaking skills through this activity but also, it helps us broaden our cultural awareness.
Warm and welcoming learning atmosphere helped her to organise successful lesson. Lesson was well-resourced and supported learning. Lesson plan was detailed and precise. Lesson was all cross curricular and clearly into the topic. Students were relaxed and confident. There was a confident and competent use of technology. The lesson was successful.
4.2.3 Homework Task Twenty.
Conclusion
Write a one-page reflection about the class you taught. What were some positives and negatives of your experience, and, how will you continue to move forward in your career to pursue professional development?
After completing the module 6, I obtained lots of useful information for organizing my classes. Before studying an in –service teacher education, I was not aware of pragmatic competence and sociolinguistic competence and linguistic competence. While I was conducting lesson, I could not focus on these competence. This is negative sight of experience. Not only these competences have positive influences on knowledge about jokes, greetings, story-telling, values, and ideologies in target language but also they make real English atmosphere and motivate and engage students work to gather. If I write about my positive experience, I use student-centered method. For example, if I give any kind of activity to my students, they work in group or peers discussing topics. What I mean by that I don’t use teacher-centered method and I try to teach my learners according to communicative language teaching. The second positive sight of my experience I constantly different kind of games such as “find someone who”, “change your place if you have”. The Purpose of using these games they open door to students to participate in the lesson actively and also they will never be bored with lesson. In the future I will conduct my lesson with the integration of four competences. The demand for an appropriate teaching methodology is as strong as ever. In order to give opportunity to our students to accomplish the communicative goal we are trying to use the principles of communicative language teaching (CLT) in our lessons. Since it involves the crucial features of the above mentioned demands, such as cultural competence, pragmatic competence and strategic competence, CLT is the key point in organizing our classes in creating a real atmosphere that our students really want and need.
