Industry term for a room identified in PMS records as occupied (charges are accruing) but that
is actually unoccupied.
Discrepancies between the morning housekeeper’s report and PMS information are
noted on the report. After any necessary corrections and modification of PMS informa-
tion, a copy of the report is sent from the front office to the accounting department.
Afternoon Room Check
An afternoon housekeeping report is usually completed shortly before the day-shift
housekeepers finish their work. A room check is done to verify the rooms that are
(1) vacant and ready for rental, (2) on-change status (guests have checked out but
rooms are not ready for rental), and (3) questionable because the housekeeper has
been unable to enter. This report is delivered to the front office. There, a list of the
rooms that are vacant but not ready for rental and rooms that were not inspected dur-
ing the day will be developed for use by housekeeping staff on the night shift.
