WHEN ARE GUESTROOMS CLEANED? WHEN DO GUESTS CHECK IN?
Many people hold this stereotype: Hotel guests check out of their rooms during early
morning to mid-morning; rooms are then cleaned; and by early afternoon to mid-
afternoon, rooms are ready for new guests to check in. In many properties, this pattern
is, in fact, typical.
Think, though, of Las Vegas. Guests check in and check out at all hours of the day and
night in some properties. Front desk agents and housekeepers may be registering guests and
cleaning rooms at hours when their counterparts in other locations are not even on the job.
In some parts of the world, international flights arrive at midnight or later and
depart at 6:00 a.m. or earlier. Hotels serving these airports may process most of their
check-outs late at night and most of their check-ins very early in the morning. Most
rooms may be cleaned between 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m.
Hoteliers must plan their work activities and employee schedules around the
convenience of the guests, even if arrival and departure schedules are different from
those experienced in other hotels.
