According to some Chinese written sources, in the 2nd century BC, Davan was a country with a 
large population, highly developed agriculture and handicrafts, rich cities and a strong army. There is 
also a number of controversies over the country’s capital. According to many sources, the capital was 
Ershi. Another source states that the residence of the great ruler was in Gushan (presumably the city 
of Uzgen). However, the Ershi option is closer to reality. The reason is that Ershi is often mentioned 
in the Higo chronicles. Archaeologists compare Mingtepa in the Andijan region with the historic 
Ershi. The monument is composed of inner (middle city) and outer cities, the remains of the arch are 
located in the inner city and only the central part of it is preserved. 
The ancient Davan state was ruled by a dynasty of local nobles during the first centuries BC. This 
is confirmed by Chinese sources. According to these sources, ancient Fergana was ruled by 
representatives of one dynasty until 419 [4]. After the establishment of the Hephthalite state in Central 
Asia, the ancient state of Fergana lost its independence and became part of the Hephthalite state. 
In conclusion, we can say that we need to study in depth the ancient monuments of the Fergana 
Valley, its cities and villages. All the studied sources, archeological findings can be summarized. We 
have shared with you some of the information we have paid about the state of Davan.
