APPLICATION OF WHITE COAL IN COMPLEX TREATMENT OF PATIENTS
ACUTE INTESTINAL INFECTION

Purpose. The purpose of the study was to study the clinical effectiveness of the use of white coal in the complex therapy 
of patients with acute intestinal infections. Material and methods of the study. Under the supervision were 23 patients aged 18 
to 62 years. Of these men - 10, women - 13. All patients are hospitalized in the hospital mainly on the 2nd-3rd day of the disease 
with an average degree of severity. Bacteriologically confirmed diagnosis: Salmonella (S. enteritidis) - in 8 patients, S. typhi

13 patients. Results. The beginning of the disease is acute. All the subjects complained of nausea, a single or multiple vomiting, 
which brought relief, abdominal pain and frequent liver abscesses. In 8 patients (34.7%), emptying contained pathological 
impurities of mucus. In 17 (73.9%) patients, pain was observed in the epigastrium, in 6 (26.1%) - and around the navel and in 
the right iliac region. All patients received baseline therapy, which included diet, detoxification, rehydration therapy (trisil, reo-
sorbilact, rehydron), enzyme preparations, antispasmodics, antibacterials (enterofuryl, norfloxacin, nifuroxazide), and white 
coals, orally 2 tablets 3 times a day 5 days for 1-1.5 hours before or 2 hours after eating, drinking a glass of water. Adverse 
reactions in the application of white coal have not been noted. The evaluation of the efficacy was based on clinical criteria, 
taking into account the duration and severity of the main clinical symptoms. As a result of clinical observation, it was found that 
in patients who received white coal, the symptoms of intoxication disappeared more quickly: already on the 2nd day of stay in 
the hospital, appetite improved, general weakness decreased, vaginal discharge decreased, and abdominal pain almost disap-
peared for the 3rd day the syndrome, rather, recovered, on average, on 1,1 ± 0,03 days, which received only basic treatment. 
Conclusion. The use of white coal as an enterosorbent, in the complex therapy of patients with acute intestinal infections, is 
effective.
