«THE
IMPORTANCE
OF
USING
STEAM
TECHNOLOGIES IN DEVELOPING SPEECH COMPETENCE BY SPECIALTY
IN TEACHING ENGLISH»
Abstract:
The article deals with the development of speech competence by
specialty using STEAM technologies in teaching English as a foreign language.
The article describes modeling of monitoring the quality of education issues.
Key words:
communication, technology, science, approach, creativity,
extensive.
Today, the development of science, engineering and technology, changing needs
of society is changing the paradigm of education in developed and developing countries
of the world, the learning process is changing with the development of skills to apply
knowledge gained from theoretical knowledge.
State educational standards based on
the systematic approach used in practice do not fully meet the requirements of socio-
spiritual and cultural development of society and the Sustainable Development
Strategy of Uzbekistan until 2030. In order to comprehensively address this issue, it is
necessary to develop and implement state educational standards and curricula based on
a competency-based approach to secondary, vocational and higher education.
The technological revolution is leading to the fact that in the coming decades,
half of the existing professions will disappear. No era has known such a rate of change
in the professional appearance of the economy.
In the near future, the world and, naturally, Uzbekistan will be sharply lacking:
IT-specialists, programmers, engineers, specialists in high-tech industries, etc. In the
distant future, professions will appear that are now even difficult to imagine, all of
them will be related to technology and highly technological production at the junction
with natural sciences. Specialists in bio- and nanotechnology will be especially in
67
demand. Professionals of the future require extensive training and knowledge from a
wide variety of educational fields of science, engineering and technology.
Education is perhaps the only effective long-term strategy to ensure that a
country can successfully engage in such competition and face similar challenges.
In Uzbekistan, since 2019, a reform of secondary education has been carried out,
secondary schools are introducing updated educational standards. The curricula of the
updated content of education ensure the implementation of the principle of the unity of
education and training, based on the interconnectedness and interdependence of the
values of education and the results at the "exit" from school with the system of learning
goals for a specific subject.
A distinctive feature of educational programs is their focus on the formation of
not only subject knowledge and skills, but also a wide range of skills. The built system
of learning objectives is the basis for the development of the following skills of a wide
range: functional and creative application of knowledge, critical thinking, research
work, the use of information and communication technologies, the use of various
methods of communication, the ability to work in a group and individually, problem
solving and decision making.
Robotics, design, programming, modeling, 3D-design and much more - this is
what will now be taught in Uzbek schools. More sophisticated skills and competencies
are required to realize these interests. It is important not only to know and be able, but
also to research and invent. One of the main trends in world education today is STEAM
education, which combines four academic fields (science, technology, engineering and
mathematics). STEAM education is based on the idea of teaching students using an
interdisciplinary and applied approach. Instead of studying each of the five disciplines
separately, this approach integrates them into a unified learning path. This is one of the
directions for the implementation of project and educational research activities at
school, outside of school. With this approach, 70% of the time students study
traditionally, and 30% of the time is devoted to research.
In addition to linking objects to real life, this approach opens up opportunities
for student creativity. With this approach, the project activities of younger students
68
pose a number of tasks that need to be solved. There is no single right decision, the
student is given complete freedom of creativity. With the help of such tasks, the child
not only generates interesting ideas, but also immediately brings them to life. Thus, he
learns to plan his activities, based on the task and the available resources, which will
certainly come in handy in real life.
Also, one of the main tenets of STEAM education is pair learning in small
groups. For example, in a robotics class, two students work with one computer and
assemble one constructor. This is not done at all to save educational materials. This
approach involves teaching children to cooperate, helping children learn to work in a
team, develop communication skills, and work in a group.
The involvement of children in STEAM education should start at an early age.
Thanks to the STEM approach, children will be able to delve into the logic of occurring
phenomena, understand their interconnection, study the world systematically and
thereby develop curiosity, an engineering style of thinking, the ability to get out of
critical situations, develop teamwork skills and master the basics of management and
self-presentation, which, in turn, provide a fundamentally new level of child
development.
According to the new educational standards students will be introduced to
technological knowledge and modeling through the subject "Information and
Communication Technologies", in which they will be taught not only to work with a
computer, but also to search and process information. High school students will have
a special course "Fundamentals of Robotics". In this lesson, students will be able to
develop their natural curiosity, gain research skills that will be useful in the future in
the study of any sciences.
In order for an increasing number of schoolchildren to choose STEM directions
for their future profession, which contributes to the development of a competitive
environment in secondary school, this area of education should have greater financial
support from the state. Since, it is obvious that the implementation of STEAM
education requires the use of special technological laboratory and educational
equipment, such as 3D printers, visualization tools, etc.
69
The future belongs to technologies, and the future of technologies belongs to
teachers of a new format, who are devoid of prejudices, do not accept a formal approach
and can use their knowledge to “blow the mind” of students and expand their horizons
to infinity. STEAM education should be based on patriotism and love for your country.
Despite the fact that there are no boundaries in science, it is important to raise a good
specialist who benefits his state. The problem of a brain drain without a drain of bodies
is a new problem in the global society.
