Using  Mother  Tongue
The  authors  o f  K ids’  English  believe  that  English  is  best  learned 
through English  so we expect the teacher  to use  English  as much as 
possible in the classroom .
O f course  there  are  some  instances  where  pupils  will  need  explana­
tion or clarification in their m other tongue.  However,  we  hope that 
teachers  w ill  try  to  resist  the  tem ptation  to  translate  everything. 
Research  has  shown  that  pupils  learn  more  effe ctiv e ly   i f   they  are 
encouraged to work out meaning fo r  themselves.
V  What  are  the  General  Principles 
of  Kids’  English?
The  follow in g   principles  must  be  taken  into  consideration  as  gen ­
eral principles o f  K ids’  English:  i) im m ersion;  ii)  listening precedes 
speaking;  iii) learning through actions;  iv) constructing reality.
