Do Now:
Students write down their answers to the questions about the quotation ‘Please, sir, I want some more’.
Different editions
Teacher explains to students that we are reading the novel in two different forms and that the original text is more complicated than the original and has more unfamiliar vocabulary. Students look at how to use a glossary.
Reading and comprehension
Students read their first extract from the original novel.
Students answer the questions once they have read and read about the man in the white waistcoat.
Vocabulary
Students learn the word vulnerable and consider how Oliver is vulnerable and where we see this.
Review
Students combine their understanding of the word vulnerable with the word corrupt (previously looked at), in the question ‘Why does the Bumbles being corrupt mean that the boys are vulnerable?’
Mastery assessment plenary
Students to complete mastery quiz. Address misconceptions.
