Plastic manufacturing industryIn recent years, China's plastic product industry has developed rapidly, whose overall level is getting closer to that in developed countries. But it is still facing up problems like high raw materials, lagged plastic mechanics, lack of self-discipline in some enterprises and outdated plastic product standard. Plastic product industry has seen a rapid growth in output, a sharp increase in main economic indexes, a growth of above-scale enterprises, a higher industry concentration and a larger and more intensified industry structure. China's plastic product industry bears obvious region features. Guangdong province focuses on plastic pipe and its fittings, plastic-cases and vessels, daily plastic products and other plastic products. Zhejiang province mainly develops plastic film, plastic artificial leather and synthetic leather. Jiangsu province focuses on foam plastics. Shandong province focuses on plastic sheeting for farm use and plastic knitting. Liaoning province focuses on plastic section materials, as No.1 in its output all through the country. China ranks the first in the world in plastic mechanics, but its prices are too low and the plastic tool and die technology is lagged behind. Domestic plastic mechanics manufacturing accounts for 70% in sales volume and 20% in sales revenue in domestic market. In 2008, the total industrial output value of plastic manufacturing accounted for a large proportion of 10.26% in light industry output. China's plastic manufacturing industry includes plastic film manufacturing, plastic board, pipe and sectional material manufacturing, plastic thread, rope and knitting manufacturing, foam plastic manufacturing, plastic artificial leather and synthetic leather manufacturing, plastic packing-cases and vessels manufacturing, plastic part manufacturing, daily plastic manufacturing and other plastic product manufacturing. Source: China National Light Industry Council During 2004 to November 2008, the number of plastic product manufacturing enterprises increase from 12,269 to 16,236. The asset size increased from 395.3 billion yuan to 651.8 billion yuan. The industrial output value increased from 419 billion yuan to 874.2 billion yuan. The industrial sales value increased from 411.8 billion yuan to 830.7 billion yuan. The contribution margin increased from 17.5 billion yuan to 34.3 billion yuan. Source: China National Light Industry Council Plastic film manufacturing industry generated a total output value of 68.4 billion yuan in 2004 and 124.1 billion yuan in the first 11 months in 2008. The output of plastic thread, rope and knitting manufacturing reached 32.8 billion yuan in 2004 and 94.5 billion yuan in the first 11 months in 2008. The output of foam plastic manufacturing reached 22.9 billion yuan in 2004 and 45.8 billion yuan in the first 11 months in 2008. The total industrial output value of plastic artificial leather and synthetic leather manufacturing industry was 25.7 billion yuan in 2004 and 48.5 billion yuan in the first 11 months in 2008. The output value of plastic packing-cases and vessels manufacturing, plastic part manufacturing, daily plastic manufacturing and other plastic product manufacturing was 80.9 billion yuan, 84.0 billion yuan, 92.4 billion yuan and 108.5 billion yuan respectively in the first 11 months in 2008. Source: China National Light Industry Council The sales costs of food processing industry were 360.6 million yuan in 2004 and increased to 728.32 billion yuan in the first eleven months in 2008. The management expenses of this industry were 21.3 billion yuan in 2004 and increased to 29.3 billion yuan in the first eleven months in 2008. The financial expenses were 4.4 billion yuan in 2004 and increased to 8.5 billion yuan in the first eleven months. The year-one-year growth of sales costs, management expenses and financial expenses in the first 11 months in 2008 were 25.7%, 18.9% and 23.0% respectively. Source: China National Light Industry Council The asset growth ratio of plastic manufacturing industry kept a rapid growth during 2004 to 2008, and peaked at 33.6% in 2004 and 12.5% in 2008. The asset-liability ratio maintained a steady change, which reached as high as 56.7% in 2005 and 56.0% in the first eleven months in 2008. The profit growth increased rapidly during 2005 to 2008 and reached 48.3% in 2007. The year-on-year growth kept as high 33.2% during the first 11 months when the world economics depressed and the domestic economic development slowed down. The annual employee growth ratio was 11.2% in 2007 and dropped sharply to 2.0% in the first 11 months in 2008. Figure 5 115 Major products output of plastic manufacturing industry 2004-2008
Source: China National Light Industry Council The total industrial output value of plastic product was 18.466 million ton in 2004, up by 12.0% on a year-on-year basis and 37.138 million ton in 2008, up by 10.1% on a year-on-year basis. In 2008, the plastic film output was 5.901 million ton, down by 3.6% on a year-on-year basis; the plastic board, piece and sectional materials output was 357,000 ton, up by 11.9% on a year-on-year basis; the plastic thread and knitting output was 477,000 ton, up by 25.3% on a year-on-year basis; the plastic artificial leather output was 118,000 ton, up by 6.7% on a year-on-year basis; the plastic synthetic leather output was 66,000 ton, up by 10.3% on a year-on-year basis; the foam plastic leather was 171,000 ton, up by 3.7% on a year-on-year basis; the daily plastic product output was 408,000 ton, up by 12.7% on a year-on-year basis. Plastic manufacturing industry saw a sharp decline in year-on-year growth in 2008.
