Who first created the robot?
The first robot to store reliable data was designed by Leonardo da Vinci. It was an android like an armored knight. According to Leonardo's drawings, he could move his arms and head. The question remains as to why the famous inventor did not give his knight the ability to move his legs, that is, to walk. Perhaps he thought it was a technically difficult problem (which is absolutely true). Or the knight was supposed to ride a horse and the mobility of his legs he didn’t need.

It is unknown whether Da Vinci was able to build his “terminator,” but he created a robot lion, which tore his chest with his claws when the king appeared and unveiled the French coat of arms hidden in it.
In addition, Leonardo had ideas about the interaction of mechanisms with human organs, i.e. in the early XV-XVI centuries he expected the modern development of prostheses that are directly controlled by the human nervous system was.
Mechanical musicians and moving steam locomotives
During the 16th century, many devices were created in Europe, mainly using wrapping (clock) mechanisms. For example, in Germany there is an artificial fly and an eagle that can fly, and in Italy there is a robot woman who can fly.
During the seventeenth century, Europeans developed and perfected the first mechanical "calculators." At first they can only add and subtract, but by the end of the century they are already capable of division and multiplication.

  • development of machines that mimic and replace man and his actions;

  • creation of data storage and processing devices.

In parallel, mechanical humanoid devices are still being developed that have the ability to play, write, and draw musical instruments.
The beginning of the 19th century was the beginning of people’s “friendship” with electricity. It is spreading rapidly and is beginning to penetrate many areas of human activity. At the same time, various mechanical computing and analysis machines were improved, and the telephone and telegraph were invented.
There are well-known stories about various humanoid machines invented and used in the United States in the 19th century:

  • In 1865, the steamer was created by designer Johnny Brainard, who was wrapped in a cart instead of a horse. It was, in fact, a human-like (only larger in size) steamer. He always had to "drown" and was driven away like a horse with a bridle. It was claimed that he could “walk” at a speed of 50 km per hour.

  • After a while, Frank Reed tests the "electric man", but little is known about this invention.

  • In 1893, Archie Kempin introduced the steam-powered artificial soldier model, which was supposedly used in practice, i.e. in battles.

All of this information is interesting, but raises some doubts, because despite the excellent features, these products, unlike steam locomotives, locomotives, etc., have never entered mass production. Perhaps they were only available in the form of prototypes and never found their application, in fact they are toys for adults.
