wHAT ARE THE MAIN AIMS AND
PURPOSES OF SELF-STUDY?

Annotation: 
The article considers the importance of self-study and deals with how this method 
can be significant aspect of effective learning. The authors examine the dimensions of self-studying 
and how it can serve students’ modern needs, as well as its effectiveness when weighed against the 
benefits it can provide, particularly in higher education. It also has several recommendations for how 
to make self-study easier in learning. Moreover, it assists students in self-evaluation and self-control 
of acquired various skills, thus promoting the growth of educational competence and autonomy. Es-
pecially, self-learning in foreign language teaching and learning has been a favorite topic for a long 
time. In this day and age, many new perspectives and innovations have been used to develop learner 
autonomy in foreign language education. One of the fundamental and universal duties of all foreign 
language educators is to assist foreign language learners in becoming self-sufficient.

Introduction
As Mark Twain once said, “The Best Education Happens Outside the Classroom,” implying that 
self-learning that occurs outside of formal channels can be both informative and educational. To put 
it another way, self-learning ensures that learners learn outside of formal systems, giving them more 
flexibility and freedom to pursue new avenues of learning. 
When using the self-study method, study becomes more like research. And the knowledge gained 
through research is long-lasting. One can investigate various approaches to a chosen topic, as well as 
various factors influencing it in various ways. A topic can be studied from a variety of perspectives. The 
human brain is an enigmatic organ. It is always struggling to form a pattern in order to deal with new input.
Today’s learners prefer to process on their own, owing to technological advancements and the 
growing trend of accessible sources all over the world, and this paves the way for more effective 
self-education, which can be more practical in the age we live in.
