Anticipatory coarticulation

– type of sound wave which does not have a regularly repeating pattern of 
vibration, and is typical of fricatives. See also

Apical
– an articulation involving the tip of the tongue; sounds articulated with the tips of 
the tongue. English /t, d, s, z, ɵ, ð, ʃ, ʒ, ʤ, ʧ, n, l/. 
Approximant
– a class of consonant produced with little obstruction to the flow of air. An 
articulation in which one articulator is close to another but without the tract being narrowed to such 
an extent that a turbulent air-stream is produced. In many forms of English, /j, l, r, w/ are 
approximants.

– a branch of phonetics used for practical purposes.
