Course abstract:
Within this discipline it is planned to give the systematic description of the Russian social and cultural history beginning with the estern Slavic pagan culture till the modern situation. the course is dedicated to the description of particular periods of the Russian history of culture. Special attention is paid to the description and analysis of the mechanism which regulates the cultural paradigma changes, which stipulates for the general logic of the development of Russion history of culture. The course consists of two independent parts, chich can be chosen by the students as the free choice courses (Block C).
Aims and tasks of the course:

To show the regularities of the origins and development of the Russian culture. To highlight typological features which make the nationalRussian culture so peculiar and stipulates for its place in the context of the world’s culture.

To acknowledge the typologically similar cultural and historic situations in the discrete periods of the Russian history.

To teach the students to use the method of analogy, historically typological analysis, and culturally comparative studies to master the course and prepare the reports.

To develop the students’ analytical thinking and improve their information baggage in the field of the theory of culture and history.
Credit value: 1 CP
Assessment: test
Requirements: 100% studies attendance, preparation and presentation of a report.

Title of the course: History of religion
The course is a constituent part of the professional BA program in Cultural Administration, part C.
Credit value: CP, 64 contact hours (49 hours – lectures, 15 hours– seminars)

Course abstract: the course gives a chronological and systematical overview of religion as the origin of the fundamental culture, dynamics and modern condition. The special attention is paid to the mastering of the notion and elements of the religion research, as well as the possibilities to apply it when analysing the media information and social opinions.
Within the course the most common interpretation of religion in the 19th, 20th century is studied to reveal the heterogenious character of the religion.
Aims of the course:

to get the students acquainted with the place and role of religion in the culture and its processes.
-
to give a systematical overview of the main ancient and modern religious traditions.
-
to develop the students’ skills in independent analysis of the processes and phenomena connected to the religion.
Course tasks:
1.to create an idea about the specific character of the phenomena of religion, heterogenious character of interpretation and manifestation in the context of the world’s culturally- historial processes.
2. to introduce those religious ideas which seriously influenced European civilizations, as well as creation of the Latvian cultural environment.
3. to develop the students’ analytical and critical thinking by getting acquainted with different sacred texts on the religious traditions and important texts on the religious reseaches.
Assessment: test with the mark (at the end of each semester). The writing tests is divided into two stages: terminology test and answer on two questions.
40% of the test is determined by the work during the seminars, and 60%- by theoretical test.
