Wlodarski W, & Gaisinovitch L, 1997, Object position sensing system for defined boundary planeapertures, (Continuing), This project analyses the performance of a two dimensional scanning infrared position sensing system. The operation of this system with respect to reliability, response time, sensitivity and detection patterns, high ambient light intensitylevel has been investigated. A theoretical model of the system is being developed. The system will be implemented to both industrial and sporting game applications.
Wlodarski W, & Chen Z, 1997, Quartz crystal microbalance sensors for liquid monitoring, (Continuing), This research aims at the development of Quartz Crystal Microbalance (QCM)based sensors for liquid monitoring. The silica and polyimide coatings have been deposited on quartz crystal resonators by sol-gel method. The waste water from theclean room at RMIT has been successfully tested.
Wlodarski W, & Zandi M, 1997, Surface acoustic wave device based oxygen sensor, (Continuing), In this project oxygen sensing technique is based on a Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) transducer. The objectives of this research areto identify and characterise the oxygen selective film depositedon a SAW device. The doped TiO2 film deposited using sol-gel technology has been chosen as the best candidate for oxygen sensing at ppm concentration levels. Promising results have been already achieved.
Wlodarski W, & Adbul Hamid H, 1997, Detection and characterisation of defects on enamelled copper wire., (Continuing), This project is in collaboration with CRCIMST and Tycan Australia Pty Ltd with the purpose of development of an on-line defect detection system for enamelled copper wire.A simulation and optimisation procedure is directed towardsdesigning a highly reliable system with the view of providinga means to wire quality monitoring and improvement.
Wlodarski W, Gopalakrishna J, & Gould A, 1997, Electrochemical oxygen sensor operating at room temperature, (Continuing), This programme is in collaboration with Novatech Pty Ltd with the purpose of development of electrochemical oxygen sensor operating at room temperature. This research also aims at the detection of oxygen in ppm level in the presence of combustible gases. Amperometric mode of operation, using solid polymer electrolyte (Nafion membrane) is proposed. Acid treatment ofthe nafion membrane is found to be promising for oxygen detection at ppm concentration levels.
Wong C C, Su H, & Payne F, 1997, The application of symbolic modelling and design automation in power switchingcircuits, (Continuing), Symbolic modelling technique is used to model power electronic switching systemssuch that exact time-domain solutions can be derived and used to evaluate / improvethe performance of the design. The equations will be integrated within the designautomation section and hence a complete package will be developed.
Wong C C, Lee C, & Kokotoff D, 1997, A comparative study of the methods of transmission line modelling (TLM) and finite difference time domain (FDTD)., (New), Both the TLM and the FDTD methods claim to possess many (similar) advantages (such as explicit and ease of implementation). On the other hand, they bothhave similar disadvantages (for example, computer storage requirement). This project aims to systematically compare the two methods and provide improvements.
Wong C C, Xiao H, & Reeves G K, 1997, Multigrid and combined fine-coarse mesh techniques for the method of TLM andtheir applications in the thermal modelling of thin film resistor arrays, (Continuing), The project aims to develop a new discretisation method (CFCM) for the TLM method. The new method is compared with other existing methods and is used to model the thermal behaviour of thin film resistor arrays developed at RMIT.
Woo M K, & Harris R J, 1997, Algorithms for Dynamic Channel Assignment in Mobile Communication Networks, (Continuing), Mobile networks are experiencing phenomenal growth and there is limited spectrum available to accommodate the traffic. Advanced methods for allocating channels to cells must be found to improve network capacity. New models are being developed to satisfy this demand.
