The aim of lesson: Providing basic information on lexical-semantic problems of translation.

Presenting general information on the problem of equivalence in translation. Providing a brief data on the various approaches to the problem of equivalence in translation; Describing the types and levels of equivalence in translation (formal, semantic, situational, pragmatic); Presenting the information on the degrees of lexical correspondences and describing the distinctive features; Presenting the information concerned with the translation of international and pseudo-international words; Describing the types of pseudo-international words (translator’s false friends) ; Providing general information on the translation of culturally marked words-realiaes;	Clarifying the notion of equivalence and explaining its basic features; Systematizing data on the viewpoints concerning the problem of equivalence in translation; Identifying the levels equivalence in translation (formal, semantic, situational, pragmatic); Identifying the degrees of lexical correspondences (1) complete correspondences; 2) partial correspondences; 3) the absence of correspondences); Clarifying the general features of international and pseudo-international words; Identifying the distinctive features and types of pseudo-international words (translator’s false friends); Revealing the distinctive features of culturally marked words-realiaes and summarizing the general points on specific ways of their translation;
