What is debate and how does it differ from other forms of direct communication?

The CUDC debate is a model of a British parliamentary debate in game form, where all players represent the "pro" side (the government) and the "against" side (the opposition). Their aim is to convince a third party (the judges) of their position through logic, argument and form of speech.
