PROS AND CONS OF ONLINE EDUCATION

Today every tenth of American is studying online. This has its own 
explanation. First, to study without attending lectures and seminars, it is very 
convenient and economical, and it allows not only young people, but also to adults 
to expand their competence, to change their lives for the better. 
In our country, distance education is only gaining momentum. In the entire 
post-Soviet area, the traditions of the last century are still strong, when studying in

a university was considered prestigious, so not entering the university, studying 
online, for us, until, not as is necessary.
It seemed to us interesting to study the question of what are the pros and cons 
of online education. After studying the Internet sources, we found out that: 
1. The most common online course is the Coursera (25 million users). This is 
a non-commercial platform, focused primarily on those who want to improve their 
professional skills, expand their knowledge and increase their attractiveness in the 
eyes of serious employers. In America, the certificate of completion of the course 
is counted when applying for a job. We need to study seriously, to do homework, 
to participate in discussions, to be in the topic. 
2. Khan Academy. It was created by Salman Khan and has about 17 million 
users. Also free, 180 million video tutorials, 700 million solved problems. The idea 
of inverted classes is actively expanding, where students receive all the materials, 
video lectures, prepare at home at a convenient time, and in the classroom there is 
discussion, answers to questions and problem solving. 
3. edX. On this resource, which cooperates with the best universities in the 
US and not only, millions of students have already been registered, and the age of 
those who decide on online courses is 25 to 95 years. edX, like all the classic MEP 
platforms, combines video lectures, reading and independent buildings, and does 
not limit itself in topics and fields of knowledge. One problem is all in English. 
So, after studying the proposed online platforms, you can draw some 
conclusions:
-Online education is by no means a competitor to stationary education (at 
least today). 
-To learn online you really need to have high motivation (new work abroad) 
- It seems that people who have higher education will be able to study online 
more successfully. 
- Constant tensely sitting at the computer or behind a tablet - influences, in 
our opinion, on health not in the best way. 
- Obviously, there is not enough real, not virtual communication. 
- If there is perseverance and motivation - you can finish the courses and get a 
certificate. 
- As an additional education and for self-education - great: you save time, 
resources, you can even serve in the army to continue to learn. 
- It is necessary to choose the untwisted online platforms.
