The subject "Biology" is included in the general educational field "natural sciences" and is
studied in 5 - 11 classes. Biology as a subject has a wide space for the use of media education in the
educational process. The biology course includes a large number of laboratory, practical and design
works, during which learners can learn content themselves by working with various sources of
information (encyclopedias, biological and ecological dictionaries, posters, video fragments, articles
from magazines and newspapers, photographs, etc.), instruments, laboratory equipment.
The use of ICT in biology lessons can improve the quality of teaching the subject; reflect the
essential aspects of various objects, visibly implementing the principle of visibility; bring to the fore
the most important (in terms of educational goals and objectives) characteristics of the studied
objects and natural phenomena.
Teaching biology at school involves constant accompaniment of the course with a
demonstration experiment. However, in a modern school, conducting experimental work on the
subject is often difficult due to the lack of educational time, the lack of modern material and
technical equipment. And even if the laboratory is fully equipped with the necessary devices and
materials, a real experiment requires much more time both for preparation and conducting, and for
analyzing the results of work. However, due to its specificity, a real experiment often does not
realize its main purpose — to serve as a source of knowledge.
The presented multimedia presentations contain interesting photographic materials, video
materials representing experiments, diagrams and graphs that clearly demonstrate changes in the
environment. These materials can be used in biology classes, using a computer and a projector, and
photos are shown to the entire class. You can also make self-made color slides from photos, which
can be used both in classes and in extracurricular activities.
The use of multimedia presentations makes it possible to present the educational material as a
system of bright reference images filled with exhaustive structured information in algorithm order.
In this case, different channels of perception are used, which allows to put information not only in
fact, but also in associative form in long-term memory of learners.
