Some people say that zoos are cruel and therefore should be closed. But, others think that they are important to protect endangered species of animals.
Discuss both views and give your opinion.
With the impact of deforestation, poaching, and frequent natural disasters, a large number of animals are on the brink of extinction, and many, though not all, zoological parks have been recently established to take care of them. While some feel that zoos can provide a sanctuary for endangered animals, I side with those who believe that zoos should be shut down because of their cruelty.
The proponents of zoos argue that zoological gardens play a crucial role in preserving endangered species of animals. They usually assert that zoos provide food, protection, and proper medical service to animals, thereby allowing them to live longer. Animals in their natural environments, on the other hand, have to struggle to not only find food but also survive from various predators, hunters, and poachers. Even more importantly, zoos can serve as a means of conducting scientific research and investigations for finding out the reasons behind several diseases or viruses associated with animals. This, in turn, may lead to better conservation of them. Probably, the earlier zoos had been built to protect animals under threat, the smaller number of animals would have faded away.
Nevertheless, another group of people, myself included, believe that zoos are to be demolished as they are very unethical. Although animals in captivity are fed, protected, and supervised by doctors, they are not provided with nature. In effect, this often causes them to suffer stress and depression, especially when they are placed in small cages where it is impossible to play or run. Even worse, captive animals are regularly displayed to the public and forced to perform certain tasks for the entertainment of people, exacerbating the stress of those missing their natural habitats. This means that a lot of zoological parks prioritise making a profit over the preservation of animals. Thus, in my view, zoos do not help rare animals, but try to take advantage of them instead.
If governments really wish to protect the endangered species of animals, zoos should be closed down and make way for wild-life parks nearby natural environments like mountains. It is also important to fund them sufficiently so that they would not use animals for financial purposes.
In summary, both views have obvious reasons. Even though zoos might offer a wide range of opportunities for animals to survive, I think that they ought to be destroyed and replaced by wild life gardens in where animals do not feel uncomfortable.
Women can do everything that men can and they even do it better. They also can do many things that men cannot. But it is a fact that their work is not appreciated as much as men’s, although they have to sacrifice a lot for their family and career. It is said: “A woman’s place is in the home”.
