PREDICATIVE CONSTRUCTIONS WITH THE INFINITIVE.
The Objective - with – the Infinitive construction. This construction consists of a nominal part expressed either the personal pronoun in the Object Case or noun in the Common Case.
After the verbs

  1. To want, to know, to expect, would like, to find, to think, to imagine. The Infinitive is used with participle “to”

He wants to come early.
They expect us to help them.
Bob imagined Ann to become his wife.

  1. To make, to let, to have, to get. The Infinitive is used without participle “to”

The mother made the boy put on his warm coat.
I let the bird fly away.
I won’t have let you behave like that.
I can’t get my students work properly.

  1. After the verbs of sense perception: to feel, to see, to hear, to notice, to watch.

He felt somebody touch him by the shoulder.
He saw Ann cross the street.
They hear my sing.

  1. To order, to allow, to ask for. After these verbs the Passive Infinitive is usually used.

The mother ordered the room to be cleaned.
She didn’t allow the windows to be opened.
Jack asked for a new car to be bought.

THE NOMINATIVE – WITH – THE INFINITIVE CONSTRUCTION OR THE SUBJECTIVE – WITH THE INFINITIVE CONSTRUCTION.

This construction consists of the subject of the sentence and the Infinitive with participle “to” that comes after the predicate of the sentence. This Construction is used after the verbs.

  1. To hear, to feel, to see, to make, to mind, to know, to believe, to report, to say, to think, to consider, to state, to understand, to suppose, to order in the Passive.

He is said to arrive early tomorrow morning.
Говорят что он придет рано утром завтра.
He to arrive is the subject, expressed by the Nominative Construction.
They are heard to have left for the USA.
The day is felt to be hot.
They were seen to be leaving the house.
The boy was made to do his homework
He was found to be guilty for murder.
She was known to be the best cook in the community.
He is believed to have broken the window.

  1. After the verbs to happen, to chance, to seem, to appear, to prove, to turn out , which are used in the Active Voice.

He happened to be present during the quarrel.
They chanced to hear the noise.
He turns out to be my relative.

  1. After to be likely, to be unlikely.

They are likely to have returned from Helsinki.
She is not likely to know my address.
