some groups, I might break down the punctuation expectations into smaller units: 

Sustained storyline/plot/character = 10 marks 

Use of capital letters = 3 marks 

Use of full stops = 3 marks

Spelling = 2 marks 

Total = 20 marks 

The  point  is  that  the  assessment  chart  can  change  depending  upon  your 

assessment  focus. Students have  the  chart  in  front  of  them  before  and  while  they 

write, so that they are aware of your marking criteria. It reminds them to use basic 

punctuation and improves the quality of work that is handed in. For speaking and 

listening activities I have used a sheet similar to the one below. 

Structure: make sure that your talk has a beginning, a  middle and an end. Make 

sure the start and ending are good. (5 marks) 

Interest: make the talk interesting. Make sure that you give the audience as much 

information as possible. (5 marks)
