2.2. Rules for pronouncing vowel sounds in a stressful open syllable
It is very difficult for Russian-speaking people to understand the vowel sounds that are not so common. Voice sounds are divided into the following types.
short vocal sounds;
long vowel sounds;
sound diphthongs (a combination of 2 vowel sounds).
Once the word is divided into syllables and the underlying stress is correctly identified, you can read the word by following these rules:
"Basic rule"
In a stressful open syllable, the open vowel letter is read as in the alphabet:
"A" - [ei];
"O" - [əʊ]; Exceptions: "o" - [L] after "m", "th", "n" and "v". Some of the examples, pigeon, come on.
"U" - as [ju:] [u:], if the letter comes later:
letters "r": rough [ru: d] - rough;
undosh + l: nay [flu: t] - nay;
whisper: June [ʒʒ: n] - June.
Double the letter "e" - [i:], "e" - [i:]. Example: see [si:] - see. The letter “E” is dumb at the end of a word, except for the single-sounding letters. Example: he [hello:] - he, I [mi:] - I, be [bi:] - be.
"I" - [ai]. Exception: "i" - [ı] is only in the pronunciation of the verb "give".
"Y" - [a].
Cases of ending in a syllable where the sounds "a", "i", "u" end are not entirely natural for English, and this indicates a foreign origin or a shortening of the word.
More precisely, the number of syllables in it (I want to remind you that in English these syllables are calculated not by spelling, but by pronunciation - for example, as 2 syllables in a tired word seems, but we all pronounce it as a whole. - [taied], so it is believed that there is ONE word).
The second factor. What does quality end with
And don’t forget to take into account the subtleties of spelling - spelling.
And so:
1 joint + -er / -est =
cold - colder - ENG coldest
1 syllable, 1 vowel -1 consonant at the end of quality (only one, roughly speaking) + -er / -est! this last consonant is doubled =
hot - hoTTER - hoTTEST;
big - biGGER - biGGEST
2 syllables, the word ends with -y + -er / -est! spelling changes: relative “y → ier”, excellent - “y → iest” =
happy - happy - happier;
funny - funny - MOST funny
2 syllables, ending in -er, -le, -ow + -er / -est =
tender - tenderER - the tenderES Simple - simpler - the simple
narrow - narrower - ENG narrow
2 joints (excluding the above), 3 or more joints + more, most =
beautiful - more beautiful - most beautiful
stylish - more stylish - most stylish
1 or 2 syllables, but the word ends with -ed, -ing + more, most =
tired - more tired - most tired
boring - more boring - most boring
In short, this is all wisdom.
He has the bitter life
He is the happiest man in the world anyway.
Mood "When the gym is the most exciting part of the day and you were there today"
The hardest thing in life is knowing yourself.
DISABLED: The most difficult thing in the world is neurosurgery on the brain.
The only thing I would like to single out is that this column almost always comes with the article The ... If you can “hold”, it’s not hard to remember. for the best - a well-known word, almost always "going away" with a definite article.
In addition, there are exceptions - the level of comparison to learn the qualities you need . But usually there is no problem with them, as most of these forms are heard:
Good - better - best (good - better - best)
Bad - bad - worst (bad - bad - bad)
Small - less - least (small - less - least).
Many / many - more - most (many - more - largest).
Old - big - oldest (old - oldest - oldest) (this is the oldest house on the street)
Old - old - oldest (old - big - old) - about family members (my brother)
Late - later - last / last (last - later - last / most recent).
Late - second - last (last of the last two listed) (What do you think about the last book?) Far
- farthest - farthest (farthest village)
Long - farthest (additional guide, see 'more information)
You can do better!
Mr. Cat: "After thinking about it later, we decided it should be irritated and irritated again."
It would be great if you could do more with less (with fewer resources).
The science teacher's biggest (literally - worst) fear: "Today I said 'orgasm' instead of 'organism' in front of thirty-13-year-olds."
Was it difficult? Or is it possible to understand the comparison of qualities? In any case, English lessons should be structured. And language practice - ideally - every day.
