Term test Review

While it is clear that actors should not revert to the acting practices of Shakespeare’s time, others disagree, claiming the increased risk is worth it to create more entertaining, realistic theater; besides, the actors are highly trained to avoid accidents. The problem with this argument is that accidents do happen, even to those who are well-practiced. The author states, “…on one such occasion at the Swan a fencer was run through the eye and died, and indication of the risks this sort of work involved even with trained, experienced fencers” (“Shakespeare of London” 1). This shows that even professional fencers could die suddenly due to an unforeseen accident on stage. This sort of risk is certainly not worth it, especially just for the sake of entertainment.
