. Calculate the original
phraseological units based on the form, meaning
and methodological functions of the stable
linguistic means available in the language of
translation. Artists sometimes resort to the kalka
method, despite the fact that stable expressions
in the original are alternative means in the
language of translation, so that the compounds
formed do not sound natural on the basis of
those available appropriate means. In the
process of translation, it is sometimes possible to
translate a particular phraseological unit using
neither an equivalent means nor an alternative
variant or a kalka. In such cases, artists resort to
the pictorial method of nliloj translation practice.
Using
this
method,
the
meanings
of
phraseological units can be explained using
logically meaningful words or phrases. The
methodological task embodied in the phrase is
not reflected in the translated text and dictionary.
For example, the phraseological unit “To make a
mountain out of a molehill” differs from its
synonym “exaggerate silent as the grave” from
its word “silent”. Therefore, translating the
English word “to exagerrate” into Uzbek with the
words “exaggerate” and “silent” with the words
“silent” leads to the extinction of figurativeness in
English units. Now let's look at examples of units
used in the English-Uzbek phraseological
dictionary, which can be translated and compiled
figuratively. For example, in the dictionary, the
phraseological unit “A bull in a china shop” is
synonymous with “clumsy”, i.e. its Uzbek
tra
nslation is derived from the word “rude”, and
its alternative is reflected in the phraseological

unit “Especially rude”. Or the phraseological unit
“Ace in the hole” is synonymous with the
phraseological unit “A friend in need is a friend
indeed”. Its Uzbek translation in the dictionary is
