Activity Interests Segmentation
Both "Go Activities and Motives of U.S. and Canadian Residents," published by Lang Research for Travel Alberta, include statistics on consumer motivations for taking travels, including where individuals travel, the activities they participate in at their locations as well as various other information. Of the 194 activities that American overnight travelers participated in, just 26 of these activities were cited as a trip motivator in at least half of these trips (Lang, 2007). 76 percent of overnight visits that included a package golf tour were mostly motivated by taking the package golf tour, while 72 percent of overnight trips that included downhill skiing were largely motivated by downhill skiing (Lang, 2007). Travelers from the United States are motivated by a wide range of activities, as stated in the research.

Approximately 41% of all vacation activities are either related to skiing/snowboarding or golfing, with these two sports accounting for the majority of those excursions' initial motivations.
