THE LEFTOVERS, EXTANT AND PENNY DREADFUL TO RUSSIAN AUDIENCES
St. Petersburg, 25th September: Pilots of the most anticipated international TV series of 2014 will be screened to the Russian public for the first time over one night at the inaugural St. Petersburg International Media Forum, organised by ROSKINO with the support of the Government of St. Petersburg.
The 'Best Pilot of The Year Night', scheduled for October 4th at the Aurora Cinema, has been organised by the online service Amediateka. True Detective is a multi-episode noir thriller about two policemen who worked as partners to hunt down a serial killer back in the day. The ones who are left are panic-stricken and demand that the authorities take immediate action while the head of the city police tries to put back in order a world which is never going to be the same again. The TV series is based on a novel of the same name by Tom Perrotta, who also co-wrote the screenplay. Starring Justin Theroux and Liv Tyler.
Extant is a new sci-fi TV series by Steven Spielberg about artificial intelligence, extraterrestrial civilisations and the future of humanity. All of life is under threat when female astronaut Molly Woods comes back home from space after spending a year on a solitary shift. Starring Halle Berry.
Penny Dreadful is a psychological thriller from John Logan, screenwriter for the most recent James Bond film. Key characters from the most famed horror stories have gathered in one place - Doctor Frankenstein, Dorian Grey, Jack the Ripper and Dracula, ghosts and shape-shifters. The creators of this TV series have reconstructed in detail the atmosphere of Victorian-era London. Starring Eva Green, Josh Hartnett, Timothy Dalton.
The Knick is the first TV series by Academy Award-winning director Steven Soderbergh. A retro-drama about the life of a talented surgeon unfolding at the time when antiseptic was just beginning to be used, antibiotics didn't exist, and ambulances were driven by horses.
