Customs and Habits.
Every society has its own peculiar customs and ways of acting (maxsus). The United States have a wide variety of national backgrounds (asoslarga, kelib chiqishiga). American manners and customs are rather difficult (odatlar, murakkab, qiyin).
Introductions and greetings. (tanishish va salomlashish).
Except on official occasions such as formal receptions for distinguished guests in America society are characterized by informality (norasmiy). This informality is seen in customs of introductions and greetings. In spite of the informality there
are good manners and social patterns that are followed
(tantanasiz kutib olinishigs qaramay, yaxshi odatlar, ommaviy ko’rinishlariga). They use such informal occasions: «Hello, Hello,Jim more formal greetings», «Good morning», «Good afternoon», «Good evening», «How do you do?», «How are you?»
Invitations.
Invitations to any but a formal dinner can be made in person, by phone or by note (rasmiy ovqatlanish). A personal invitation shouldn’t given in the presence of someone else who is not invited. A telephone invitation should be made directly. If the person can’t be reaced in time they try again rather man leave a message (kela olmasa).
Dining customs. (Ovqatlanish odatlari).
Americans that the first rule of being a courteous guest is: Be prompt! (odobli mehmon, chaqqon bo’ling). If a person is invited to dinner at six thirty, the hostess expects him to be there at six thirty and not more than a few minutes after (mezbon). When the guest cannot come in in time, he calls his host or hostess on the phone, explains the reason (mehmon). At company meals the host and the hostess are usually seated at the opposite end of the table. Men and Women are placed alternately, nd married couples are separated possible. (turmush qurganlar almashinib o’tiradi, qaerda mumkin bo;lsa).
If children are to be including in the company meal, they are usually placed on their mothers’ left. Teen-agers are seated in the same ways as the rest of the party. The guests usually stay for two or three hours. The most dinner parties break up about eleven o’clock (tugaydi).
