THEME: PLURALITY IN NOUNS. (OTLARDA KO’PLIK)

1. 
   Ingliz tilida ko’pgina otlarga –s qo’shimchasini qo’shish oraqali ko’plik hosil qilinadi:
   

a car – two cars; an apple – three apples; a tree – many trees, a song – two hundred songs, etc.

2. 
   Agar ot –s, -ss, -sh, -ch, -x, -o harflari bilan tugasa, ko’plik hosil qilishda, otning oxiriga –es qo’shimchasi qo’shiladi:
   

a bus – ten buses; a dress – a lot of dresses; a brush – four brushes; a torch – eleven torches; a box – five boxes; a tomato – lots of tomatoes, a potato – three potatoes, etc.


Note: Ammo ba’zi –o harfi bilan tugaydigan lotin va grek tillaridan o’zlashgan so’zlarga ko’plikda –s qo’shimchasi qo’shiladi:
A radio – twenty radios; a piano – nine pianos; a photo – six photos; a rhino – eight rhinos; a hippo – seven hippos; a video – twelve videos, a tattoo – ten tattoos, a zoo – three zoos, etc.

3. 
   Agar ot –y harfi bilan tugasa, va undan oldin undosh harf bo’lsa (consonant + y), ko’plik hosil qilishda y harfi tushib qoladi, va –ies
   

qo’shimchasi qo’shiladi:
a strawberry – thirteen strawberries; a lady – four ladies; a baby – two babies, etc.


Note: Ammo y harfidan oldin uncli harf keladigan bo’lsa (vowel + y), hech qanday o’zgarish bo’lmaydi va –s qo’shimchasi qo’shiladi:
a boy – three boys; a day – thirty days, etc.

4. 
   Agar ot –f va –fe harflari bilan tugasa, ko’plik hosil qilishda –f va –fe harflari tushib qoladi va –ves qo’shimchasi qo’shiladi:
   

a leaf – two leaves; a wolf – ten wolves; a wife – four wives, a half – two halves, a knife – five knives, a self – selves, a thief – ten thieves, etc.


Note: Ammo ba’zi otlar bundan mustasno:
a roof – two roofs; a giraffe – one hundred giraffes; a cliff – a lot of cliffs, a handkerchief – three handkerchiefs.

5. 
   Ba’zi otlar ko’plik hosil qilishda hech qanday qo’shimcha qabul qilmaydi. Ularning shakli o’zgarishi natijasida ko’plik hosil qiladi:

   Ba’zi otlarning birlik va ko’plik shakllari bir xil bo’lib, ikkala ma’noda ham ishlatiladi:
   

a sheep – two sheep a deer – three deer
a means – four means one series – five series
one shrimp – six shrimp one species – seven species.
a fish – ten fish a fruit – five fruit
